Deputy, suspect dead in Ohio trailer park standoff

January 1, 2011

A Clark County deputy, left, and German Township Patrolman Jeremy Blum, right, open fire on a trailer Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011, at Enon Beach near Enon, Ohio.

A sheriff's deputy investigating a report of gunfire at a western Ohio trailer park has been shot and killed. The shooting suspect also is dead after a standoff.

Clark County Sheriff Gene Kelly says 40-year-old Deputy Suzanne Hopper was the mother of two children. He says she was wearing a protective vest Saturday but it didn't shield her from the gunfire that killed her at the Enon Beach trailer park, 50 miles west of Columbus.
